TOURS:
SURFING
The
North Coast of the DR is arguably the surfing capital of the
Caribbean.. and the famous Playa Encuentro break, located
5 kilometres from Cabarete (towards Sosua) is the epitome
of what DR surfing is all about - clean waves that cater to
all skill levels. Right-breaking waves enter the East side
of the bay, and left-breaking enter on the West side.
The
North shore has the most consistant waves in the country,
best from November through March. Strong, low pressure systems
in the North Atlantic and the deep Puerto Rico trench help
create large, steady surf all winter on the north side, with
waves reaching heights of 12-15 feet. The hurricane season
(June-October) can also bring heavy surf.
If
you've never surfed before, you will be happy to find the
water at Encuentro is fairly deep, warm, and void of coral
heads. Best of all, there's no aggression - the local surfers
are very patient with beginners, and you will most likely
make some new friends during every session.
Our
guides will give you a lesson on everything you need to know
before hitting the water, and we'll stay with you every step
of the way. After a few hours, with complementary beverages
and small snacks to keep your energy up, we'll head back to
Cabarete just in time for the afternoon windsurfing.
Price:
$15 US
+ $10 with Surfboard
+ $4 with Boogie Board
If
you have surfed before, you can rent surfboards from the Center
and venture to the break yourself if you would like. Enquire
at the Service Desk.
